Thats personal preference. I personally user Dreamweaver to edit my javascript files. But since you sound alittle newer to the subject, notepad should do just fine. Just open it up, edit it and then just save it. Do not save it as a .txt file, leave it as a .js file.

That all looks fine, you just need to put in code that determines whether the user is a member or not (maybe by querying a database) and then you set the userIsMember variable to true or false based on that.

On the sample on the website where you see the div hiding code in action, you can actually access that js file. Look at the source of the file and look for the divhide code, and put that URL into your browser and you should be able to see/download it.

do a search on the v3 forums for filters and alpha...you need to place an alpha filter on the menu to make it somewhat transparent. But be warned, it will only work on Internet Explroer 5.5+ since the effects are proprietary to MS. I would also recommend upgrading to the v5 Milonic DHTML Menu system...
