Top position misplaced?

Post by Maz »

Is top position not working on horizontal menu?

It might be the cause of a sleepless night.

Are you looking at my menu?
The Milonic menu should be on top of html menu?

I downloaded today's RC.

Thanks

Looks ok from here, I think. There are two menus, both riding on the right side of the screen nicely. The top most one snugs the top of the browser, the other alittle lower. Not sure if thats what you want, thats what its doin though.

The top menu should be on top of the html menu, top position is not working. Also tools menu is not moving on the page.

This time its the new script on the template. I tried moving it, I get an error, I try removing it no menu. I don't suppose there is any chance if I put the line back in on source that its going to work again?

Thanks

The one that starts "Home Page' is overlaying your logo. Need to move the logo down.

The top menu was perfect, its the new RC today, I'm thinking menu#9 on the forum is experiencing similar difficulties.

This new script is causing problems.

I replaced the menu RC from yesterday the top menu is back to normal.

But I haven't got followscroll to work again.

Yesterdays menu had the new script, so I was wrong on that. It was an afterthought, my initial feeling was that it had more to do with changes in the last RC or something left out.

I mentioned in my other post what happened after I tried 60's to see if it was the clock and it really went crazy. Well... this morning I had to call my ISP because my login was not verified, apparently their database had messed up. Hope I didn't have anything to do with it.

Maybe you're why my e-mail wasn't working when I left the house this morning

BTW, the RC from today is working fine here.

Now you've got one menu directly on top of the other. It goes...

Home Co Home Page [down arrow] About Us etc.

I'll swap you my small screen ;) Okay, back to my tables.

Followscroll is not budging :(
I tried cutting up the menu for tables... made it worse.
Why can't script line in tables be official? Its so much easier to work with.

What are we using now, script in head or body? I'm using body, tried both although I didn't try head with the latest RC.

My followscroll was moving, so what happened, could it be the div, js & macs don't like? Can I use another method of hide?

I'm going to have to wait for the next RC.

At this point you don't have a followscroll menu (you're talking about the one that was on the left, correct?). It's completely gone.

Why does it have to be "official" if it works?

Should work in either, but I always put mine as the first item after <body>.

None of the above!

Wrong :!:

If you haven't made any changes since I posted this, do the following to get your tools menu back.

Change the <td> that calls the tools menu to this...

Code: Select all

<td width="130" valign="top" align="left"><script language="JavaScript" src="http://mercuryexposure.org/template/main/xtoolsmenu.js" type="text/javascript"></script></td>
Note the added quotes around everything, valign, and align items (those last two were the biggies!). Just copy/paste to be safe.

Also (told you this once before, but you didn't do it - really gonna have to smack you ;) ), in your tools menu do this...

Code: Select all

followscroll = "1,100,2";
Bingo - tools menu back in sight (at least it is on my system) :!:

BTW, I left all your calls in place while I was testing here. Because you're using full URLs (why?), that means this worked with whatever RC you have on your system now.

John thanks for all the ideas, I will test them now, yes I did try followscrolls and screenposition, can't remember what it is now. The full urls are only on script & items that get pulled to the forum in another directory. I really would like to keep page color but there is no way around at this time. Once all done, I could consider making 2 menu systems, but that's more than I need right now.

I have a question for DAVE!!! If I yell will he hear me?

Please Dave can you take a look at my source code, I added js html links to match my menu, take a look at the bottom set, when I click on one of those links it grabs the followscroll tools menu along the left and sends my page to a white sheet with only the header menu, my php content disappears. I copied the recipe, maybe you know better?

Hopefully its okay and the changes I make now will fix it.

Thank y'all

What's the URL?

There have been a few changes but only for popup menus. If I had the data file I could test it here.

Cheers
Andy.

Maz,
I took a look at your links at the bottom and I didnt see a problem, or I guess I dont get what you were referring to. It looks like your links include the pid in the URL, which is fine and your index.php should be able to handle that. I cant see your php so I cant say what you are doing. Also, the only ones to have a pid were Home and Site Map and they both worked... and I didnt see the scrolling menu.

Secondly, I took a look at your forum again to see why you were getting that white stripe along the bottom of the menu at the top. I downloaded your menu_data file (used my own milonic_src,mmenudom,etc files) and put it on a page with a background color and got NO stripe (but the menu was along the very top, not where it is on your forum). So I copied your entire page source as well as all CSS styles over to my site and ran it, and I get a very similar looking site to your forum, but no stripe and the menu is along the top again. I looked at your code and saw you are using all RC10, good. But when I used your mmenudom file, the menu's position changed. I am guessing you editted that file. I really cant go sifting through that to see what you changed, and that may also have something to do with the stripe. When I use my mmenudom and milonic_src files, stock from Milonic, it looked fine and just needed to be pushed down, which is easy. If you did go in and edit mmenudom, thats fine, but its tough to troubleshoot when the things you expect to be constant are changed. If you didnt change them, redownload them from milonic and try again. But I got it to look fine on my machine using your exact menu_data file but with my own menu source files... :) We're makin progress.

I just started on it again this afternoon. I did everything John said last night and the menu wasn't moving and the submenus won't open. First I downloaded the latest version and still the top position of top menu wasn't responding. So I replaced the older version again.

I decided to go back a bit try the old doctypes, try the old cdata comand instead of the new div. Those things I really don't know that went with the original site setup with v.3. Try floating followcroll out of the table, but I know that will freeze my links, got errors and decided to get back to where I was before.

Thanks for all your help, I'm glad you checked the js links. Padding had nothing to do with the white line, it only arrived since I changed to screen position right, added background image and adjusted submenu position.

I'll send an email.

Then I guess I really don't understand. As mentioned, since you are using full URLs in your calls, I was actually running your RC when I got it working last night on my system, with only those 2 changes.

To clarify.
The Tools menu followscroll moves on windows 98 IE, but not in the correct position and adds a white line under the horizontal menu that can only be seen on a dark background.

On the mac IE 5.1.7 the new RC's are not placing top= on the right horizontal menu. I lost followscroll, menu positioned wrong, won't open submenus or hidden behind the table. I'm back to where I was before. Remember I had it working but it started acting like a pendullum. When I click on bottom onclick links at bottom of the page, the menu leaps to middle, php content goes to the middle of the page with large white space top and bottom.

Could it be because I'm using the same images the menu is using?

I'm going to clean up the computer and wait.
I need a fresh start.

Thanks
