No Status Info in Opera 7

Post by dmead001 »

I just noticed that Opera 7 does not show the status message programmed in the menu. All other browsers I've checked show it fine. Is this a bug in either Opera or the menu?

FWIW when trying out various different DHTML menu systems (before picking Milonic) some of them managed to show status text in Opera, so it must be possible...

Could you please give me a URL to such a site, I just scowered google looking for a status bar script that would edit the status bar text in opera 7 but none actually did it in opera 7.

opps sorry - I have status bar messages for several items on my menu because it tends to hide my urls. http://www.geneseotrack.com has most of the main links showing status bar messages not urls. Hope this helps - thanks

One thing you should do with Opera is ensure that you have the absolute latest version. Each one changes, sometimes they break things, sometimes they fix em.

Opera 7.2 should work as expected.

Cheers
Andy.

Hergio,

AllWebMenus Pro from http://www.likno.com does it in Opera 7.2

(I can't get Milonic's menus to do it - I can't actually get my own javascript to do it either, so I don't know how AllWebMenus does it..)

I can see the status just fine in Opera 7.2 on the Milonic Menu

I can't see status in Milonic's or Likno's menu in Opera 7.1 though, clearly a bug in Opera.

Are you sure you have Opera 7.2 running?

Cheers

OK, I've just had a play here, and I'm not sure if it's a bug in Opera or a setting I've got or something, but it seems to show the 'Title' attribute in the status bar

eg

if I have

<a title="testtitle" onMouseOver="status='teststatus';return true;">testing</a>

This is in Opera 7.2 (build 3087) it shows 'testtitle' in the status bar (as well as showing it as a popup over the link), in IE6 it shows 'teststatus' in the status bar, as I'd expect

(This is actually the same as Likno's menu - it's not showing the status text, but the title text - I just had them set the same so I couldn't see which one it was)

I'm quite willing to accept it could be a setting in my Opera, but I can't see where - and it is DEFINITELY a Opera 7.20 build (according to Help -> About Opera)

By Default - status bars in Opera are off ( I think )

To switch it on try:
View - Status Bar - Bottom

The status bars themselves are there, they just don't show the status text.

I'm currently downloading the latest version of Opera 7.2, as the version I have is a week or so old...

Opera 7

Post by dmead001 »

I was using Opera 7.20 but apparently there is a more recent with the same number that has resolved the issue. Thanks again for the great support Now if I could only figure out why ALL mozilla browsers on my computer suddenly throw "disk not in drive" errors when they are opened (happened when i just installed Opera!)

Now that's an interesting combination. But the resolution, of course, is obvious...
