Menu style

Does anyone know if I could achieve a similar 'scroll effect' on the menu as can be found on http://www.ebuyer.com.

I like the way the menu's appear really quickly and as if they are coming from the top down. I've played with the styles and I can't seem to get it to do it.

Check the Microsoft site to see if any of their filters (which you can use with Milonic but, of course, will only work in IE) will handle that (not sure right off the top of my head). The direct link has been posted here a few times - Search should find it for you.

At first glance, that is not a microsoft filter. Its totally DHTML javascript. Basically all its doing is moving the menu down fast while clipping the top of it so it appears to be sliding downwards. This would take some extra javascript added to the menu. Microsoft provides a similar, albeit not the same, looking effect called a wipe. Essentially the menu is stationary but "appears" from top to bottom in a fade type of transition. You can also pick the direction is appears. But that transition will only work on IE browsers, I would guess that ebuyer's works on a couple other browsers since its DHTML.

Thanks all for your replies. The demos at http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/samp ... Tidemo.htm are great to visualise what it will look like.

Basically I've used the following in the style for the menu.

Code: Select all

Wipe(duration=0.01,wipestyle=1,motion=forward)

PS. I realise that most of these effects will only work on IE...however the usage for this occasion is on an Intranet so I know the target browser.

Excellent, I am in the same boat. A totally microsoft house over here, so it makes it easy. I recently pulled our company's intranet homepage up in safari on my powerbook (

) and I should be ashamed!

Man am I lucky the site is Windows only....I mean, I was nieve and under a deadline when I made it, but still, it just don't look right. Netscape and the such are ok, but its gotta be windows! haha
I personally just use a drop shadow and some transparency. The people here use the intranet to get at their applications and documents quickly, not for eye candy...keep that in mind! I know transitional filters can slow things down abit; it was a hair slower here, but it was enough for them to ask for it to be turned off. This great menu gives me the ability to give them quick, percise functionality while still allowing me to throw in alittle pizzazz.
