fixed positioning of the menu

Post by twesson »

Hi -- I'd like to be able to fix the position of the menu so that it doesn't scroll with the rest of the page. Is there a way to do this without having to resort to a follow-menu type of scheme?

Thanks in advance.

I hope I understand your problem. If you do not want the menu to follow the scroll, there is a command in your data.js file that states "followscroll=1;" Remove this line or set "followscroll=0;".

I'm trying to figure out a way to get IE to use fixed positioning with the menu. I've found a hack -- now all I need to do is find a way to get the menu to work with the hack and I'll be all set.

You'll need to explain that a lot better than you did, and, as requested, provide a URL so we can get some idea of exactly what you're trying to do.

Basically what the problem is is this.

I wanted to have the horizontal menu (with vertical submenus) "FIXED" on the screen in one position regardless of how much scrolling happened with the page -- it would still remain fixed in one position.

IE doesn't support real fixed positioning via CSS2. You have to hack it to make it do this. However, this doesn't work with the Milonic menu. I suspect because you can't have DIV tags in the HEAD area where Milonic is required to reside at.

What I think I may have to do at this point is use actual frames and try to work with your frames example where the horizontal menu is in the top frame and it references the submenus in the lower frame. Might work fine if I can get the 2 frames tight enough to each other so it doesn't look like there's a division between them.

I was wondering about that too, I tried adjusting the speed and rate but it didn't make a lot of difference, but discovered a nice effect with followscroll on submenus.

I wonder if it would be easy to turn followscroll on the main menu on and off manually.

Are you trying to get the menu to act like an integral part of the page, like for example, you have a page, you have text and such, you 'fix' the background so it doesn't move and the whole page seems to scroll. And, you want to get the menu ...edited this, dang I'm tired. I mean you want the menu to stay 'fixed' like you can make the background remain fixed using css while the page 'scrolls' 'past' it?

And as for the frames. This is a site from someone on here 'squills' who was working to get them, and says they work well. The site uses the unsupported frames code posted here. http://milonic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2753

and this is the site.

Yes, that's version 3. It does support frames very well, but it's no where near as manipulatable...hmmm, designable  I know that word is right. How about it doesn't manipulatability. Geesh, just create my own language. I hate insomnia.
