Slow First Response

I have a standard vertical menu, in a side frame, running perfectly except for one thing...

The first time use is very slow - sometimes as long as three seconds.

Thereafter it is fine.

Does anyone know of a way of preloading whatever needs to be preloaded to improve this first response time?
