Tabbing not as expected with keypress.js

Post by epelinac »

I need to make our site 508 compliant which meant making the Milonic menu tab-able. I added the keypress.js file so now you can tab into the menu, however, you can't tab out of the menu. When you are at the last menu item and hit the tab key, you are taken to the first menu item so hitting tab just cycles you through the menu. How do I make it tab out from the last menu item and into the next tab-able field on the page?

Thanks,
Eileen

Hi,

Can you provide a url please? Can you try the Milonic main site and tab that menu. I'm not seeing the issue there. http://milonic.com/

Hi Ruth,

Our website is http://www.refworks.com/refworks and you can create a demo account. The menu currently on our live site is not the one using the keypress.js so you will not be able to see this behavior on our site.

This tabbing happens on milonic's site also (http://milonic.com). If you hit tab on the last menu item which is the only item in the Search menu, it takes you back to the Home menu item which is the first menu item. It should tab you out of the menu so you can tab to the logout button or the hyperlink text on the page. What happens when you tab from the last menu item?

Hi,

I tab to the log in button, not having been logged in.

I just checked your site and your menu is years old. You'll have to upgrade. There's no way we can support older versions since there have been so many changes, improvements, and fixes.

Hi Ruth,

We have upgraded to the latest version but it is on our test site currently and we don't want to go live because we need it to tab correctly. If you want to email me separately, I can give you our test site. Nevertheless, I am not getting the same behavior on milonic site as you. What is causing the different behaviors? Any clue?

Hi,

What browser and OS? You should note that when you click and enter the search with the tab it opens the submenu and there are 4 clicks before it exits to the logo at the top of the page and then the next is the login/out button. I think that has to do with the url, the form, then the next search link below the form...

Hi Ruth,

I am using IE 7.0.5730.11. After I tab into the Search menu, then I hit tab twice, then I'm in the Home menu item and it cycles through the menu again. However, I just tried Firefox and it works fine. So is this just an IE problem?

BTW, thanks so much for your attention on this.

Your last post is, I think, the key. Given that it works in FF and not IE7, the finger would seem to point (yet again!) in that direction. I have passed this up to Milonic for you and Ruth.

Thanks, John. Unfortunately, our menu has the problem in both IE and FF. There must be something you are doing in your menu that we are not doing in ours. If you can take a look, I would greately appreciate it. It is currently on our test site at http://rwt.refworks.com/refworks and you will need to create a trial/demo account. If we can get our menu to work in FF then at least we'll be halfway there. :D
