menu script conflicting with an external load script

having the menu script and my external load script together works fine but the width of the menu (vertical) is not wide enough to see the full name and the arrows are to the very left. Now I used the menu width variable and made it larger. This action casues my external page to not be seen ion the layer that it loads to. The distance between the menu and the content layer, as I call it, is far enough aprt not to cause a conflict. What I want to know is, when the menu is made, how big of an area does it take up?
