Issues with menu in cell (relative positioning)

I am using the menu with relative positioning in a table cell.

The site can be found at: http://wetlandcare.com.au/wca2/

It appears to be functioning fine in IE 6 ( have not checked it in earlier versions of IE for PC as yet).

The menu is however scaling wider in IE 5.2.2 for mac and extends beyond the row.

Does anyone have any suggestions? It appears that IE 5.2.2 for mac is padding the cells more than IE for PC. I currently have it set to 4.

I have also noticed that in Opera 7.1 a search form which I am hiding vanishes completely when the menu rolls over.

Is this normal?

Any other suggestions or if other issues are noticed it would be very much appreciated it you could let me know.

Firstly, if you must stay with version 3 of the menu, make sure you are using 3.5.15. THis may clear up the padding issue. I dont have 5.5 or a mac, so I cannot reproduce the problem, but make sure you got your bases covered on the versions. Better yet, go with version 5, it works better in alot of respects.

Regarding the opera 7, that was just the way it was implemented in opera 7. There really wasn't an easy way to get the menu to render over forms, so they are hidden completely. I believe version 5 works fine with forms now.

I am using 3.5.15.

Can I be sure that version 5 will fix this issue?

How well does the conversion process work or am I better to start from scratch and rebuild the menu?

Cant guarantee anything about version 5, but all I can say is that it has solved alot of problems in the past. Its overall plays alot nicer with more menus and renders alot faster and has more features.

I would recommend setting up a test page with the new menu so you can get it going and see for yourself what it can do and if it fixes your problem.

There is a converter utility on the main site. It has had its hiccups though, so its not perfect. You could run your v3 code through it and see if it renders ok in v5, if not then download an example of the new menu and edit that new menu_data. You will pick up on the new format in no time, plus it will give you some great experience into what it can do and how it does it.

Is it possible to set the padding differently for macs?

Presently I have it set at "4" and it appears that "2" would work better for macs.

I am not keen on changing it to "2" for all Users as mac's only make up a small percentage of users.

Nothing in the menu supports the ability to set styles and attributes for different browsers soecifically. This will have to be a design decision for you to make. Or you could hack the menu, but I doubt thats a wise decision. Sorry.

You could always split the difference and try 3 for your padding

Seriously, I would go with Dave and move up to v5. 3.5.15 is the last of the v3 series, and technically is no longer developed or supported. You might as well get to where the real work is going on. The converter can be a little tricky, but it's pretty easy to clean up the goofs. The v5 download now provides docs as well, so you really can't miss.
