help with menu

Please note that official support for this menu version has now ceased. There are still plenty of users, though, and the forum is still running. Some of our long-time users may be able to help you out.

help with menu

Post by Kingdom Causes »

Hi, can someone take a look at the link below and possibly tell me what may be the problem with the menu. I can fix the issue with the display frame so don't worry about that, but it's the actual menu that keeps displaying behind the display frame. Thanks....

To have the submenu open in another frame you need a separate menu data file with all the submenu information on it and you need to put the call for that file and also for the mmenu.js file into that particular frame page. Here's a link with your menu on it opening like you want.
LINK REMOVED You should be able to see from the zip file how it was done. Good luck

Thank you very much, Ruth! I really appreciate it, deeply. I'll have our tech guy take a look at it and hopefully he can make it work on our site. I'll let you know when we don't need it anymore so you can remove it from your site, and i really appreciate your support! Take care.....

You're very welcome. It should work on your site, I just used your page and images and files. :) Good luck.

Since its been kind of a pain to get the frames into the new version, the site still maintains a frames version example but it is using the old menu code and is not supported. Take a look at http://milonic.com/menu/frames/ to see how it is done. Best of luck, and consider upgrading. Frames aren't totally support yet I dont think, but they may very well be in the future. Plus I put alittle hack up here a while back to get it to work if you absolutely had to have it. Happy Holidays.

help with frames

Post by Kingdom Causes »

Does anyone know where we could add a z-index="100" to either the mmenu.js or menu_array.js or to a style sheet to make the menus always show on top, i.e. top frame and the menu shows over the bottom frame. I've added a .mmenu{z-index=100;} to the style sheet but don't know where to add the <div class="mmenu"> to the html page.
We already know of one work around, but would like to know if anyone has tried the z-index="100" as a fix for the frames issues or who we might be able to contact to work with to play with getting the z-index to work.

You mentioned that you had a hack if we absolutely had to have it. Were you talking about if we wanted to use the old menu version in frames? Can you help us?

I put up two pages since I wasn't sure if you got it working. I went to the link you had originally and the menu still didn't open in the main frame, so I put pages up with that working. I also put a page up with the menu in the bottom cell of the table in the top frame right above the main body of the page. Hope that is what you wanted. I also sent a more detailed email with the explanation...

LINKS REMOVED

help with frames

Post by Kingdom Causes »

Thanks Ruth for your help, time, and energy. I appreciate it. I actually did want the menu up above where the original one was. I was wanting the menu to open there but 'over' the main frame. We currently had it opening but it was covered by the main frame. I've got our tech guy working on it and he'll take a look at what you've got for us too (thanks) along with what other people have suggested. Hopefully we can get this resolved.

If you mean you want it to be IN the top frame but when it opens, it opens straight down over the main one so the main is behind, I don't think that is possible. This isn't exact, but it's sort of like having a wall [that would be the full window in which you have each frame] and in that wall you have 3 full windows, [the three pages that make up your frameset [left, top, main]you can slide the upper sash of the top window down, but it's won't 'slide over and into the window below and become a part of that window, it's got it's own window frame.... So, your frameset has 3 separate pages, when you have the menu on one page - the top frame and you open it, it will open there, if that's where you have the full menu and codes and don't tell it to open the submenus in a different frame i.e. page by putting the file for the submenus on that frame page and telling the main horizontal menu the source and target for the menus.

Version 3 DOES support frames and the link i gave you is all there is for that. Use that as an example if you are using version 3 of the menu.

If you are using version 5, which frames are not supoprted in, I threw together a hack (and its just that a hack and its not perfect) at viewtopic.php?t=2753 If you want to give it a try, best o' luck!

Hergio, they are using ver3. They want the submenu to open in the top frame where the main horizontal menu is and if it's long to just continue 'on top' of the frame below.

If you want one physical menu to span across two frames, as far as I can tell, thats impossible. Each frame contains a separate page which is a separate entity, and you can have an element from the one page "spill" over onto another. Hope I understand right.
