Macromedia Flash file covers up MENU V3.5.15 on IE version 5

Please note that official support for this menu version has now ceased. There are still plenty of users, though, and the forum is still running. Some of our long-time users may be able to help you out.

Macromedia Flash file covers up MENU V3.5.15 on IE version 5

Post by ronwolpa »

I found out that MENU V 3.5.15 is covered up by a Macromedia Flash file
on Microsoft I E version 5 (on version 6 it works properly) ;

On IE 5 , as the mouse rolls over the menu bar , I can only see part of one of the menus which is the largest one , the only that overcomes the position , exactly on the flash file ends. Other menus are not large enough , so they are "hidden" by flash file ;

The Menu is placed in a table on a upper position ;

The flash file is positioned just below the Menu ;

This way :

.........................................................................................................
<td > <script language=JavaScript>PlaceMenu("menu") </script> /td

<td> .......flash file is embeded here ......</td>

.........................................................................................................

I´ve seen things like this before, with others dhtml and javascript menu bars , and as far as I am concerned , I could never solve the trouble ;

Is there something can be done , without having to place the menu bar bellow the flash file ??

Cheers

There are two fixes for the problem. The first is to redesign your site complete to put the menu below the flash. The second is much easier. Convert to using version 5. I tested your design and 5 works perfectly. It has a thing called divhider.js which can be used to make the menu function over an applet. You will need some help with the table placement because that code isn't used anymore, but there's a table example you can download to get all the info you need. Also there is a converter on the site which will convert your old ver3. I'm using ver5 with the div hider on my site. LINK REMOVED The links won't work because nothing else is up there right now but a text version of the site while I upgrade. Let me know if you need any help.

Note also, RW, that v3 is no longer supported or being developed. As Ruth said, v5 is the best way to go.
