Webhosting solutions?

Post by ACIDSTEALTH »

Need help if possible, I am looking for suggestions on a new webhost. My current host is web1000, *****. The ftp server is almost constantly getting knocked offline and it is often days before I can upload updates to the site. So basically, I need this:

~50+MB space
~1+gig bandwidth (monthly)
~FTP access
~PHP (not required, but preffered)
~javascript for DHTML menu
~no adds (no banners, popups, etc)
~file size limit no less than 1MB (preferably none IF possible, NOT required, but prefered))
~I don't really care if certain file types are banned like MP3s or whatever, because I have nothing of that nature for the site anyways.
~FREE

It cannot be deluxnetwork, web1000, or T35 because I already tried reistering accounts there and it locked me out of the server before I could upload my site, and I havn't been able to get threw to tech support.

It doesn't matter if its a subdomain or /you because I have a Dynamic redirect for the site anyways, so the URL would be the same anyways.

Any help there would be really appriciated because I need to be able to update my site more than once a week, lmao!

Anyways, just looking for a few suggestions. :)

I'm not sure you will get all that for free and with reliability too.

My advice (and it's not what you want to hear) is pay for the service, there are plenty of low cost web hosting solutions that can offer the above for just a few bucks per month..

Basically, hosting a web server costs a lot of money and nobody can really offer this service for free unless they are making revenue from somewhere else. This normally means advertising with popups and static ads that are forced upon you. Geocities is very good but you get the ads which is what you don't want.

The problem with free web hosting is that they can remove the service at any time and leave you downtime looking for another free web host. With paid hosting you get at least some kind of protection.

Do you not get any web space from your ISP? Most Internet Service Providers offer minimal web space without ads and with reliable support.

We could offer you some space on milonic.com but we don't open any ports other than HTTP and SMTP. This stops the hackers from getting in through insecure ports such as FTP so you won't be able to even login, let alone get your files up.

Anyways, I hope you find a good free host, I do think you may need to compromise though if not through paying them money, through some form of advertising.
Cheers

1and1 dot co dot uk usually have some good deals on. I've heard mixed results from them (service good, support poor), but my GF has had no problems so far.

Ya, my ISP offers space but only 20mb space and i don't know the bandwidth limit, but I need at least 50 because of screencaps.

I already had a few good hosts before. Fateback was good untill they started forced text adds so i tried moving to deluxnetwork and t35, both ftp servers NEVER worked for me and finally came to web1000. server is mediocre and works ocasionaly, but it has everything i needed. Just the server issues.

I talked to a friend, he might be able to get me hooked up with him, he is getting anice payed plan and offered a chunk of it to me if i wanted, so i mgt just do that.

BTW, thx for the link. :)

freewebhosting dot ws
will give you most of it and more..
But only 25MB for free and you have to buy a domain through their
partnersite. I've been using them for three months now and it's two thumbs up :D
Domains from $8 is very reasonable
