drop-down in back of a video on a html page?

I know I have an OLD copy of the product. I am just prototyping something.

The drop-down menu under THE INSTITUTE comes down BEHIND the little video. How do I force it to come down IN FRONT of the video?

Hi,

As far as I know you can't do anything with that version. I believe those problems have been fixed in newer versions. It isn't behind the video in IE6.

Thanks for your reply...here is a puzzling part of this...if you look at
http://www.nifplay.org/STAGE/vision.html with Firefox on a MAC...put your cursor over THE OPPORTUNITIES menu item you will note the menu is IN FRONT of the video.

I just found that lastnight...I will go see if I can tell what the difference is between the two pages.

Please note that support for versions of the menu other than the most current version (5.816 as of the writing) is not available. To get help in the forum you will need to upgrade.

Can I make a suggestion.

When I visit your site I see that it wants me to download and install Apple QuickTime. Now, not being much of a fan of Apples I have decided not to install ANYTHING Apple unless I really have to. This means I only have Safari on my PC for testing purposes and I refuse to Install QuickTime.

This means that I cannot even see your video and I won't be alone here.

What I suggest is for you to convert your QuickTime movie to a .flv Flash Video format. this has a much much wider audience and will fix any issues with zindexing.

Thanks for your suggestion on formats. Until I do...if any of the other that have the QT capabilities on a MAC using Firefox...

So I have the newest code.

A question...the FLV files are so much bigger than the .mov ... isn't that something I should be concerned about too? I took a 9 MB .mov file into PremierPro...exported it to FLV and now it is 52 MBs...suggestions?

FLV files are the backbone of sites like youtube.com - They are only successful due to the fact that you can upload a file in any format and their server will convert it to a Flash FLV file that can be easily downloaded. This means that the file size will be reduced to the minimum it can be using .flv format. However, there may be a slight drop in quality but nothing that is too noticeable.

It sounds like you have the quality set too high. Have you tried adjusting the quality on the output file?

Hi,

Well, I don't really know a lot, but I remember something from way back about players being created by the operating system then 'embedded' in the browser not generated by the browser and therefore not controlled by the browser. I know that with the flash player you can set the wmode to transparent and that makes it seem that any dhtml content is sitting on top of it and the issue of dropping behind doesn't seem to be happening, though I think it is actually that the content is showing 'through' the flash rather than dropping in front of it.

If you don't want to use the flv files and set the quality lower to decrease the size, the only other option I can think of is to redesign so that the dhtml content doesn't drop over the player.

By the way, this is not a MIlonic problem it is a problem found with all layered dhtml content. Hope this helps.
