Is it possible to have the egdes round?
Is it possible to have the egdes round?
I am kinda tired of the whole box look and feel. Any way to get the corners to be round? Some sort of style?

You could use Sample 18: All Images. However, that means designing buttons and if you want to quickly change a menu item means you have to design a new button.
I'd be interested in variations to the square design if it's a feature you're considering implementing Andy?

You could also create a single image (with rounded edges) as a background, use it as the bgimage (background image) for each menu item, and ut actual text on top of the bgimage in each item. This would work especially well with a vertical menu, since all items in the menu would typically be the same width... only one image to maintain (two if you want a rollover), and you can easily change or add items by changing the text. Disadvantage: if you want menu items of a different width (e.g. for a horizontal menu), you'd have to create a separate background image for each menu item of a unique width. But still no more work, and possibly less, than an all-image based menu.

If you have the image as a bgimage thing, you actually need three images. You need a image for the first item in the menu which would have the upper two corners rounded. All the items in the middle of the menu would have sharp corners or could just be a solid background color (to speed up load time). And then the last item in the menu would have rounded lower corners. This would five the menu that rounded appearance you are looking for. Having one image would entail having to make a different image for menus that had different numbers of menu items since they would be different heights.

Hmmmm. I guess Ronnie and I were talking about menu items with rounded edges. Dave's (Hergio) excellent point focuses on rounding the four corners on the overall menu. That made me re-read the original post, and now I'm not sure which one the original question was after; the menu itself, or individual menu items??? Anyway, it looks like the thread now has answers for both!

Re: Is it possible to have the egdes round?
this is so great! i want some help and instead i get a deleted topic and no answer! this is do great forum!i am really disappointed....
Re: Is it possible to have the egdes round?
A bit too much whining and not enough patience...
1. You posted into a topic that is 5 YEARS old. I would expect some items to be gone by now.
2. The folks who help out in this forum are VOLUNTEERS (not Milonic employees), some of whom have JOBS. You posted your complaint barely 4 hours after your initial question. Chill...
Hmm - wonder if I should wait another 4 hours before giving my opinion. Oh, well.
See http://milonic.com/imagepack/backgrounds.php for a nice sampling of backgrounds for use (download to your server - do not call them from ours!). We try to make things easy here. Of course, you could just as easily make your own with any competent graphics program.

Hi,
Also, what do you mean by scaling after the text? If you mean the image should expand as text gets bigger that can be done, but not with just one image with for rounded corners. Images do not 'expand' from the middle. So, is this what you want, the four corners and the image expanding as the text gets bigger?

Re: Is it possible to have the egdes round?
@Ruth - yes i want the image to expand as text gets bigger...you see as the image i uploaded the "accuielle" is smaller than the "qui sommes-nous?"... and i don't want a single image as a bg, i want to be 3 image one for left, center and right also for over other 3 images...
i hope i get myself understood... thanks ruth, aslo john

Re: Is it possible to have the egdes round?
Hi,
That can be done, if I understand you correctly. Just to make sure. You don't want an image with text already on it. You want a background image and then you will put text in the item so that if the font size of the user is a larger size the image must 'enlarge' to accommodate the font size?

Hi,
OK, is this like what you want? I didn't want to do all the explanation, which will be long, until I was sure this meets what you want. If it is I'll set up the first two items using your images from your screenshot post and then put the full explanation and a zip file for you.
Link Removed 10-6-2011: this link has been removed. See link below for explanation and example page for using css, images, and the menu's divide option to create 'expandable' rounded corner items. When you get there, change your text size in the browser making it really large so you can see how the menu increase the font size but keeps its shape..
Ignore the 'problem with page-class' part of the page because Milonic already did a fix and added a whole new property to the menu all in one day This is why I am so pro Milonic menu. They are not only into functionality, but also focus on the design issues that many of us who are design 'freaks' [like me] are caught up in And they make the menu as easy to use and set up as possible.

Re: Is it possible to have the egdes round?
Hi Andrea,
Can you get me the images you want to use? Is the screenshot the images you want, if not I really need an example of what you want to use, the color and such because I have to remake them to work as they should for this kind of design. I also need at the least a main menu with a minumum of two items, one of which should have a showmenu and a submenu with at least one item, if you don't have any menu set up yet, I can use the Milonic one that is in the download, not a problem there, but the images are imperative.
If you can post that here, I can have something set up for you to use to make the rest of your menu by later tonight, or tomorrow if you can't give me the images until later.
Thanks,
Ruth

Re: Is it possible to have the egdes round?
Hi,
OK, here is the example with explanation and a zip file with all the necessary data, page, etc. [links are at the bottom of the page] You will need to download the newest version of the menu to test that it works with it. I put a link on the page where you can find that version. It is on the menu version information page. Just post back if you have any questions. I didn't know if you know anything about css so there's a kind of real simple explantion just in case.

If you have any questions just post back and we will be glad to help. If you don't want to have to do all the coding for the page highlighting you can do it just setting up pagecolor="your font color"; in the menuStyle section. Then it would just use the same images as already coded and change only the font color.
