OK, I have found the problem. I had a recent issue whereby some company (they will remain nameless) downloaded/installed software without my express consent. In resolving that issue, I disabled the following,

Effects Filter not working on Server
I am sure that the effects filter was working on my Website but now it is not. What is very strange is that the effects filter works when the page is displayed locally. It is the same browser being used in both cases (IE V6).

I would like to have an image in the main menu items (where appropriate)
at the beginning and not at the end (sub-image). I want to retain the image (sub-image) in the sub-menu items.
