Menu not working correctly on Safari for iPad/iPhone

Post by kmarkvenas »

Hi,

I just recently purchased and installed version 5.920 of the Milonic menu. It works fine in IE/Chrome/Firefox and Safari on the desktop.

But if you are using Safari on an iPad or iPhone it doesn't work correctly.

When you click on a menu in Safari on the iPad/iPhone, the menu will appear but when you select an option in the menu it will not select unless you hold it down for a few seconds and an OPEN button appears.

Any ideas what is causing this? This worked fine in older versions of the library.

Thanks,

Kevin

I found that menu version 5.920 has an issue using Safari on the iPad/iPhone.

The older version 5.902 seems to work fine.
Is it possible that I use the license I just purchased for 5.920 on 5.902 instead so I can get my application to work?

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi,

I have posted this to Milonic and am waiting a response. You could also use the Support system at the main site. This would allow you to open a ticket, not only with the original issue, but with this question. Hmm, a little confusing as to using the old with your license ...but, when you purchased the license and then downloaded the menu, if you open it you will see that it actually has your license info in the program files. Since you didn't have the license for the older version, there is no license information in it and you cannot now download that version in licensed form, as far as I know.

To fill out a support ticket since you have a license, go to the main site and log in. http://milonic.com/ Then at the bottom of the page you will see a text link Tech Support, click that and then fill out a support ticket :) Hope this helps.

Thanks Ruth. Milonic has replied to one of my support tickets I created.
They are working on this issue for me.

The Milonic website menus work fine on my IPAD/IPHONE. But for some reason our app does not.
I wonder if there is a setting I need to change in our app now that I installed the new 5.920 libraries.
I am getting the Triple Click problem on the IPAD/IPHONE only. On the desktop it works fine in all browsers.

Hi,

If you are saying that the Milonic main site menus work on your iphone/ipad, then that is version 5.920. Did you tell them in the support ticket that the site menus work but that when you use the menu in your app they do not work on the iphone/ipad? It seems to me that it must be something in the app, though I must say you are way beyond my pay grade. I know absolutely nothing about any of the new tech. I just absolutely love the Milonic v5 menu. I find it to be the easiest to design and to use. Also, Milonic is the best for customer support. It's one of the reasons I volunteer here because they are always available when things get beyond what anything that we the volunteers can figure out.

Anyway, just make sure that you have told them that the menu on the main site does work for you so they can figure out what the interaction is that needs to be addressed with your app. What app, by the way? Just curious.

Yes Ruth I told them the Milonic menu is working. That was the first thing Andy asked me to look at. I am sure he will figure out what I am missing.

Thanks for your help.

Latest version: 5.921 should help fix this.

Andy,

Thank you for fixing that. On the iPad/iPhone Milonic seems to work fine.

For some reason though on Internet Explorer using a desktop when one of my menus opens up, everything gets highlighted when you scroll through the menu not just the item you are hovering over?

Any ideas?

Thanks for your support.

Could it be the tooltips.js problem again?

No, I put the new one in from the new package 5.921. But it looks like the new one didn't have any changes to it from the one from previous one.

Kevin,

Can you send over another copy of the website, like you did before.

Did you use Firefox to do the "save as" in the end?

Andy,

I just sent you a copy of the website.

I saved the website using Chrome.

Thanks,

IE menu problem has been resolved.
My code was pulling the wrong tooltips.js file.

The only other problem I noticed is on IOS4 devices. In Sarafi when you click on an item near the middle or the end of a long list, the menu pops up near the bottom of the screen. Looks like the offset is off for IOS4 devices.
IOS fine and all other browsers seem to be fine.

OK, luckily we still have an iPhone here running IOS4 that I can test with.

Sure enough I can see the problem now. Right, here's I suggest:

As you are using the popup function, you can bind the menu to an object - that should fix this issue. Let's use the object you are clicking on to bind to, here's some steps to take:

1. In your HTML, change this: onclick="doMyApps();return false;" to this: onclick="doMyApps(this);return false;" - you are now passing the object you are clicking on to the doMyApps funciton
2. Change this: function doMyApps() { popup("Apps",1); } to this: function doMyApps(Obj) { popup("Apps",Obj); } - This tells the popup function to bind the menu to the passed variable Obj

I just tried this and it seemed to work very well.

Let me know how you get on
