Masked URL

Post by selvan777 »

I'm using a redirecting service on my site so instead getting there by http://lastborns.comuf.com, you'd use my link in the signature.
But if you get there via the surf.to link and click the link back to Milonic, my URL is still displayed instead of Milonic in the address bar.

Is there any way around this aside from giving up the redirect service?

Hi,

Hmm, I'm not sure what you are saying, but if I click the link in your signature I get to this address in my address bar: http://lastborns.surf.to/

if I then click your link on your page back to Milonic, the one right below the updated date that says DHTML JS Menu by Milonic, I only see that url http://milonic.com in my bottom bar that shows where I'm going and in the top address bar I get the same url for milonic when I click it. So, just exactly where are you seeing your regular url?

Hi Ruth,

Thanks so much for looking into it.

You don't see it now because I applied a fix to it all just a little less than 24hrs ago with the tag that breaks me out of frames: ;target=_top

See, I utilize the ad supported services of surf.to, they forward my lastborns.surf.to address to another of my choosing (currently lastborns.comuf.com). In doing so, my real URL is masked with lastborns.surf.to, which is fine but, it remained so on any and all links clicked from there too. I found that if I added this script into the page or the menu_data.js file, it all went away but, because it blocked their ad, I can only use it in all my pages other than index.html. Now, I don't think using that tag above is breaking any of their rules... at least I hope not.

To follow-up from that link above, since moving from tripod to comuf, it's no longer an issue.

I've consulted with the surf.to and they have no plans to support Favicons, not even one of their own. Strangely so even after pointing out that IE 9 is injecting their IE Favicon into my page. Unfortunately, I don't see that with Firefox 10, and probably not so with all other open source browsers too. I say unfortunately because I feel web sites without Favicons appear incomplete and are below Standards and am glad to see IE fill it it's favicon. I'm thinking I should suggest Firefox also do the same.

What's your thought on that?

Hi,

Well, I'm of two minds on that. In some cases fav icons are fine they are subtle and not hard on the eyes, in others, I have no clue where the sites got their idea for their icons but they are eye killers :) Then again, I just go and change the icon in IE if I don't like it. So, if FF decides to do it and lets you change the icon, I have no objections. That just comes down to personal preference: I prefer soft icons, not colored eye bleeding ones

Huh, I never realized how easy it was to change it in IE, but then again, I never thought about it...LOL I'll be sure to include that ability if and when I ever do make the suggestion. I'm just looking around to see if there's many who feel the same way first or if I'm the odd one out...LOL

Had a look at your site it's nice, can I link to it from mine? (EDIT)I'll understand if you rather I not though (/edit). I gotta ask though, Concrete converter in Metric conversion, had you been playing in concrete at some point in time... LOL. Sorry,I couldn't help myself, it's just so not like you judging from your beautifully soft toned site.

Life is most certainly unpredictable and challenging, but well worth living.

Cheers,
Selvan

Hi,

Boy, somehow I got unsubsribed to every forum and just thought to check today and see why I haven't heard anything. So, I just saw this post. You are more than welcome to link to my site. It's kind of out of date, but I am going to make changes, I'm working on it now. Concrete, I actually poured by hand a 10' wide 5' long concrete apron to the concrete slab of my car port in NC. The conversion chart was so I could figure out how many bags of certain size, i.e. 60 lbs, since I couldn't pick up the 90's :) I have learned to do a lot of things with regard to remodeling since it's so expensive to hire contractors.

So, though I like more art things, I can do tile, plumbing, electrical, rough carpentry, dry wall etc. And, now that I'm retired, I actually like doing things like that. I am remodeling my new -to me- [60 year old] house, which it seems most have let just fall into total dis-repair. So, now let me go to your other post and see what's up there.

Well, aren't you the handy-woman, wished you were my neighbor...I could probably pick up quite a few things from you. The internet is great isn't it. I too have had much use the calculators available for all sorts of things. Thanks for all the help you give to all of us, your site is linked now, but it's not like I get tons of visitors or anything...:)
