Menu not appearing in AOL

Post by jgold723 »

I'm getting complaints from people using the AOL browser that the menu is not appearing. I've set up a <noscript></noscript> menu in case it was a javascript issue, but its still not appearing. I'm using version 5.744.

Thanks,

John

Hi,

You will need to update to the newest version for support on the forum. I don't have an aol browser. I think you might have to contact Milonic directly about this. I'm not sure if John has an aol browser available either. Also, we would need to have a link to the page where the menu is to be able to test and see what's up.

OK -- first of all, I tried to update my menu and something went wrong in the process. So I'm waiting to hear from Milonic to see what happened before I put my credit card out there again.

In the meantime, I'm waiting to hear if upgrading will even help. It would be one thing if you said, "yes, the latest upgrade fixes that problem with AOL." But all you've told me is that I have to upgrade before you'll even answer the question.

If you want to see the site, it's at http://www.spinnakertrust.com

Thanks,

John

Hi,

I'm sorry, that just happens to be one of the forum rules so I follow it as to the version of the menu.

I do see that there seems to be a problem with the 5.779 that you now have on the site. I downloaded your page and used my version 5.779 and I'm not getting that error, so I'm wondering if somehow your files got corrupted on upload. You might try uploading them to your site again, I think they recommend ascii mode, though I've used binary on my program and not had a problem.

Also, you might try this page http://milonic.com/menuvinfo.php and make sure you're logged in for the download, then I'd suggest downloading the pre-release version 5.783. Make sure you put the other versions someplace so you still have copies of them.

At the bottom of that page there is a text link to Tech Support. If you have a valid support license click that and while logged in it should give you a beta support system to fill out a ticket.

I found one topic about the menu not working with AOL but it was two years ago. viewtopic.php?f=10&t=6721&p=33019&hilit=aol#p32665

Thank you Ruth. Is it possible that there is a setting in my menu_data.js file that might be causing the problem? Or were you able to download that file as well?

I'll try reuploading the file to see if that helps.

Hi John,

I have just tried your website on AOL 9.0 and it works fine, here's a screen grab:

Do you know if your user is doing anything odd - has he actually got JavaScript activated?

Cheers,

Hi Andy --
It's always hard to say with users :) -- but at least I know it's appearing in AOL 9. I'll try to troubleshoot the matter with her further. I do have a non-javascript menu available, so she should be seeing that at least if she has JS disabled.

Thank you,

John
