We finally have a Release Candidate

Post by Andy »

There is a RC at http://milonic.com/v5_rc1/menu.htm if any of you want to go take a peek.

I'm pretty sure we've covered everything that has been pointed out to us so we'd now like you to rip it apart again and spoil our party

Heh, only jesting :D You really shouldn't find anything wrong with it but if you do, it'd be great if you can let us know. There are limits to what we can test so your testing is extremely valuable to us.

Cheers
Andy

Error with the download link

Post by Hergio »

Andy,
Noticed the download link was incorrect. The directory said 5rc1, when it should be v5_rc1. I changed it and it began the download. So for everybody who tries to download it before Andy gets a chance to fix it,
the URL for the zip is http://milonic.com/v5_rc1/menu5.zip.

Thanks Andy, we will be sure to try this one out and let ya know how it goes! Doing a great job!

Despite the fact that our illustrious leader has problems with URLs  the silly thing seems to be working. Have tried Opera7.11, NS7.1 (brand new yesterday), and IE6. Will give Mac a try tonight.

One interesting item in NS7.1. When the page first opened and I moused over the menus none of them opened. I had to click first to get one to drop. However, after that initial one-time click it worked OK.

Very nice, is there supposed to be a scroll bar on Tech.? I don't see it or your menu is long for the page. The sub menu is totally left and sub-sub menu is way over on the right. (this old mac)

When I test the menu as is on my computer the scroll bar is now stable and a little over excited more than its sub-menu, it could probably be turned down a notch now. Excuse my not so technical language.

I am confused with the js files, if someone care to explain.
I tried isolating the horizontal files and get a js error, which files go with which? milonic_src.js / mmenuns4.js / mmenudom.js
Thank you!

Thanks, Maz.

No, there is no scroll bar on Tech (Staff is actually just a tad longer). With my screen and resolution they only come down about half way. You must have a pretty small screen! The only scroll menu is Student Affairs (Home/ASU Sites/Student Affairs).

Which file you need (or use as a model) depends on what kind of menu you are building. The three you mentioned (milonic_src.js, mmenuns4.js, mmenudom.js) are the 'base' files for the whole system. From that add one of Andy's sample array files and build your menu.

How do you use relative positioning with this menu? Doesn't seem the same as the older versions and there isn't a sample of it in the download (always mentions it's "On the way though"), but jgillett seem to figure it out. Any help? Thanks in advance.

I'm not using relative _positioning_, but rather relative _addressing_ in regards to the array files. Some folks have been having trouble with ../ in their menu arrays, which can really get sticky.

Andy, you note a few fixes to RC1. Is the updated version still RC1 and at the original URL, or is there a new URL?

Thanks.

Two Possible Request?

Post by falcon01 »

jigilett: Oh, I see, could you post or PM me an example of how you did it or could Andy post up the method on how ot use relative positioning with this version plz?

Also did the code that enable high3dcolor and low3dcolor slow down the menu or anything cause in v.5 (and older versions besides 3), you have the comment of "Not sure if this will be released in future version".

It will make it into the final release.

It's not an issue of speed though, more of keeping the file sizes down.

Hey John,

I tend to forget my name from time to time too. Probably cuz I'm too stressed out and doing too many things at once.

What's your excuse? ;) :? :D

Between the Dean, Ass't Dean, and Provost dumping almost as much time-critical work on me as you have (because my boss is out of town), fire department training classes I'm running, no fishing trip, a wolf who wants to do nothing but chase me around the yard when I get home beat, and (yes, I admit) just gettin' old - well, you get the idea. :D  ;)

Sorry about the off-topics folks - I should know better really, shouldn't I :)

Cheers
Andy.
