Opera 6 and bug on homepage Milonic

Please note that official support for this menu version has now ceased. There are still plenty of users, though, and the forum is still running. Some of our long-time users may be able to help you out.

Opera 6 and bug on homepage Milonic

Post by Cooper »

Hi all,

I use Opera 6.03 (and 6.02 at work) and found a "serious" problem when you visist the Milonic homepage and access the menu.

When you open up a menu Opera has the habit of closing it a fraction after you try yo navigate in it.

I don't have the slightest idea of the cause (I just heard of this wonderful script) and it happens randomly. Sometimes it just works.

Also, when the menu is first loaded it sometimes remains inactive. The arrows remain on the left (there are not positioned) and the menu isnt clickable.

Have other opera enthousiast noticed this? I hope to solve this problem, I like Opera to much. :)

Opera 6 and the "disappear"-bug

Post by heinrich rabe »

Hi Cooper,

I had the same problem with Opera 6.04.

The "disappear"-bug appears more frequently with a menu with submenus than with a menu without submenus.
You can slightly soften this bug, if you increase the value for the time delay from 500 to 2000.

This is the only script I found so far that also functions in DHTML pages with levels.

There are no problems with NS 4,7, NS 6, 7, Mozilla 1 and IE 4, 5, 6. Only with Opera I get this "disappear"-bug. I am not really happy about it.

Perhaps do you know an other DHTML menu script, that functions in DHTML pages with levels and with Opera?

You've probably got a JavaScript error that Opera is hiding from you, and then Opera is switching JavaScript off.

You can tell Opera to inform you by going into preferences and navigating to Multimedia and enabling "Report JavaScript Errors".

This will enable you to see the errors and you can then tell me about them.

Alternativerly you could give me your URL and I'll take a look myself.

Cheers

Hi Andy !

I had this pb weeks ago... when i used several menus in the same place. I think it comes from different menus that overlaps themselves...
It's now OK for me.

There's only one problem for me with opera 6.0.4 : sometimes the menu does not appear or appears partially... there's no error message...
Reloading the page usually shows the menu.

thanks !

RE: Opera 6 and the "disappear"-bug

Hi Andy,

I have constantly activated the option "Report JavaScript errors" in my Opera Browser.

Opera doesn't announce any error when the submenu appears. Therefore I can't give you closer information about the "disappear"-bug. Sorry for that. Opera also doesn't switch off JavaScript when the submenu appears.

I will create a demo-site to show you the problem.

No bug with Opera 6.01

Post by heinrich rabe »

Hi Andy,

I just tested the menu with Opera 6.01. There is no bug.

The bug seems to appeare only with Opera 6.02, 6.03, and 6.04.

That explains it.

I've just downloaded 6.04 and I've seen the problem.

And my thoughts are - "What on earth have they done to it now" :?: :| :!:

I must admit though it is bloody quick, the menu appears much faster than in 6.01 :o

I'll have a fix for you by tomorrow :D

Post by Cooper »

Hi Andy,

The report javascript error did lower the menu dissear rate (but this can be subjective for me.

I am interested it the way you fixed the issue. Can you tell me a little about it?

Thanks
