Hey!
This question is completely of the usual target, but I hope everything goes in "Everything Goes"!
I'm looking for a online booking system for conference rooms etc. I.e. a webbased calendar, or something, that I can publish on our online intranet for our employees to book our conference rooms, LCD-projectors etc.
Of course, if I can get a freeware, I'll be very happy, but I'd be grateful for any ideas.
Take care,
David

Excellent!
Well, basically I'm looking for a way to view and add to/delete items or bookings on an online calendar. I want to use this on my workplace and make it avaibale online, so that everybody at work can make use of it no matter where in the world they happen to be (we do a lot of travelling!).
We have several conference rooms, LCD-projectors and laptops that we need to "book" and later collect when we need then. This is currently done manually by one of our staff. What I would want is a viewable and amendable online calendar for each of these items, e.g. Conference Room 1,2,3 etc., LCD projector 1,2... you get the picture! So, if I want to book a certain conference room, I pick that conference room, perhaps in a dropdown menu, and whoop, there is the calendar for that conference room. Then it should be possible to make bookings, or basically input which days I would like to book the conference room and that would then appear in the calendar. Then, when the next person checks he or she can see when the room is free and when it's occupied.
Of course, it would be possible for someone to just delete an entry and then make a booking for the same days in another name, but I guess we would just have to trust each other! We're a small institution, so it shouldn't be any problems. If you would use this at a larger place, I guess you could password protect the entries or something like that.
Since I was now asked to gives some specs, I'll make the most of it!
If I can pick and choose, I guess one solution (although I don't know if it works technically) would be to have a dropdown list where you can choose which item (room, projector etc.) you want to make a booking in. That could then take you to the actual calendar, and then there could be a form or a link to a form where you make a booking. From the top of my head, maybe just a few fields, with the dates of course (where the DHTML calendar system undoubtedly comes into play), name of the person making the booking, and perhaps one field with some minor information about the booking (e.g. name of a conference or something).
That's basically it, now when I got the chance, I just wrote down what would be perfect for me, but I assume there are tons of other ideas. I hope I was clear, otherwise I'd be happy to specify further!
Thanks for even considering this issue!

Hi David,
I tried using 'conference room booking software' as a search and got a lot of results, but I don't know if any would meet your criteria. I tried putting in freeware with it, but none that came back were freeware, well I didn't advance through the pages, so maybe there were some freeware things farther down the line. Just thought I'd let you know.
As an aside, and I would not be able to do it because I don't have the knowledge, but I'd think you could almost do what you want uisng the Milonic menu and a Mysql setup? Since I don't know anything about that, it's probably way too involved to do it yourself.

Hi Ruth,
Thanks for your help, I've also found a bunch of booking software, but none of them seem to be exactly what i'm looking for. Maybe I just have to adapt!
I agree that the solution could probably be as you mention a Milonic menu and a Mysql setup. I hope someone that knows a lot more about this than I do sees this as an interesting project
Thanks,
David
