Experience with v3 to v5 Converter?

I think the above licensed site is using v3 (I was an early adopter), my question is: would using the converter to v5 break it? I have customized a bit (eg. ALT tags for menu items).

By the way, I have done two other sites using the Milonic menu (both licensed, of course) and the clients are very happy with it.

Thanks for the kind words, Paul, and your support. You won't find anybody more dedicated than Andy to making sure the Milonic DHTML menu product is better than anything else out there.

As for the converter, it can't hurt to try. There are a few things it burps on, but in the long run it should save you time in the conversion process to v5.

Thanks for the quick reply.

The only concern I have is that I was here back when v4 was being developed and some suggestions I made were resolved by knowledgeable members of this forum. But I don't think these ideas were necessarily officially incorporated into v5.

So, like, I'm worried about upgrading.

Since you haven't said exactly what those ideas were, I have no way to give you an answer on that.

IMHO, the worry would be in not upgrading. v3 is no longer supported or developed. v5 is the only place things will happen, if we haven't got you covered already.

The idea I had was alt text descriptions on mousover of menu items. This seems to be obvious, but when I originally adopted the Milonic menu, this was not a feature.

After posting here about the idea, someone (Kevin, you, Andy? - I forget) offered a solution that worked - see the site mentioned in my original message.

This is what I'm wondering about - will the converter delete my customization?

All I can suggest is that you try it.

The coverter is quite good but won't do ALL menus.

If it works you should see your menu appear, you can even download your menu as a menu sample.

Try pasting http://www.pipingdesign.com/menu_array.js into the file box on the converter and see what happens

Plus you may be able to take the tweak you received for the v3 menu and apply it to this menu. This menu actually is alot more open and easier to customize. Give it a try! Let us know how it goes!

Since it won't overwrite what you already have, there's no harm in trying it. As Dave said, for stuff it might miss you can plug that back in and see what happens.

As for new parameters, check the main site for the (almost) current list to see what's been added.
