Image Maps & V 5.05

Post by bobwill »

I am now running Version 5.05 - Built: Saturday March 6 2004 - 12:51 and some of the "hotspots" on my image map have quit working. Been working for 6 months. Would someone take a look and let me know what they see. I cannot get the States of Teneesee, Louisiana and Colorado to "popup" data.

Also, the "Image Map' sample on the Milonic Home page I am also having a problem getting some of the "hotspots" to popup.

http://www.baseball.legion.org/regional_map.htm Data file is in http://www.baseball.legion.org/javascripts/map_data.js

Can't see a problem. I take it the ones you want to pop up are the coloured states? Not being an American, I'm assuming Tenessee is TN, Colorado is CO and Louisiana is LA!

Maybe it's me today, but I get a DNS error on both those links (probably a router somewhere).

On Andy's sample page I'm having no problems at all - they all pop.

I appreciate all of your input. However, I cannot get CO, TN, or LA to popup in Opera 7 or IE 6.0.

What I noticed is they didn't open up properly until I made the browser large enough. Could size be an issue?

You could try a little test one.

You are right Maz, it does have to do with the size of the browser window. However, what controls where the popup window will appear? About 6 months ago they appear right next to the State that was a hotspot. Now the States that I am having a problem with are popping up at the top of a full screen. How do you control their position.

PS: Maz, I do think some of the others do have a size problem also. :}

If you test a small link and it works in whatever browsers are having problems.

Then my suggestion is to get smaller flags, and compact your submenus into a smaller area.

Another way around might be to make a small flag the submenu, and add another submenu so that when you mouse over the flag it opens the stats.

I've seen smaller moving flags and they would probably look better in proportion with the text.

Well, I still feel left out! Continue to get a DNS error when trying to get to your site, Bob.

I do not know what to tell you Jgillett. Maz can get there obviously. Try going to http://www.baseball.legion.org and then under World Series menu click on Regional Map.

I have been doing some more testing as suggested by Maz. It does appear that the size of the browser window controls where the popup menu will appear. Even on the Milonic home page example some of the cities do not appear unless you are in "full screen" mode. It appears to me that the popup menu position is sometimes linked next to the "hotspot" and then on others it goes clear to the top or bottom of the browser window. I do not know how the browser controls the position. As stated earlier I have tested in IE 6.0 and Opera 7. Same results. The size of the popup menu is controlled by the length of the text data, both height and width. Some how there needs to be a way to control the popup window x,y coordinates in relations to the "hotspot" coordinates.

Working from home today (actually sick at home today). At any rate, connecting now with no problems. This one is Win2K/IE6, not a full-screen browser (maybe 2/3-3/4), and it's working fine. Every state pops up the data.

Since I knew that the popup menus worked fine in earlier versions of the menu, I went back and installed the RC50 release.

The menus in Opera 7 and IE6 did popup right to the left or right of the "hotspot".

There has to be something in the V 5..... release that is effecting the screen position of popup images. I would agree that it has something to do with the size of the actual data is being displayed. The Milonic menu Image Map has a very narrow height and width of data being displayed.

I have put back the V5.05 version on the site. If you want I can put the RC50 back on and you can take a look.

I am still here trying to get an answer to what has happened to the screen positions of using popup menus with images.

I have determined that a change took place between V 5.01 and V 5.02.

I agree that the popup menus do appear, however after V5.01 they do not stay within the boundaries of the browser window, unless you are in full screen mode. When they do appear some of my menus appear go to the top of the browser window, rather than staying near the image "hotspot"

Can Andy or someone please take a look at this issue. I don't think users should have to work in full screen mode.

I am runninigs Windows 98 and tested using Opera 7 and IE 6.0

Thanks

I have the same problem with image mapped menues

Post by mohrgan »

I just wanted the developers at Milonic to know that I am also having the same problem with image mapped popup menus that 'bobwill' is having. My image maps are quite large and can not be displayed on screen with out scroll bars (~2048x1764). Not all, but some of the hot spots that are off screen when the image is loaded do not get there menu positioned right.

I am working on a private, non web based html CD-Rom and can not share the URL (as there is non) with you. Sorry. But I do want the developers to know that Bob is not alone.

I am using Netscape 7.0 running on a Linux box.

I look forward to hearing about the solution.
Mohrgan.

Andy will have to look at this. When I looked at Bob's page I was not in full-screen mode and all the images were within the window (OS X/Safari).

Thanks to Andy and crew for the fix.
