onbgcolor - on base url of website

Hi,

our site -
http://www.citytech.cuny.edu (we bought a professional license - yay!)

I am confused as to how to make the "onbgcolor" item property work for the front page of the website - the onbgcolor works fine for all other pages of my site. Basically the link is titled "home" - this is associated with the index.html file in the base directory of the website. The link for "home" is "http://www.citytech.cuny.edu/index.html" -- the onbgolor will work only if someone types in the index.html which is not realistic. If someone types in just "http://www.citytech.cuny.edu" - the menu must not associat the index.html with the base url because the onbgcolor doesn't work.

I got around this for the front apge by setting the offbgcolor to the desired yellow color.

I may be putting the site in SSI and I would like to use one menu code. Anyone know how to make it work? I guess what I'm asing is: When one visits http://milonic.com onbgcolor works for the home link - I want it t do the same for mine.

I'm confused... I know you're writing about onbgcolor, but do you mean pagebgcolor? What doesn't work? What should it do?

If you are referring to the pagebgcolor, then when you click the link to your site it shows in the address bar as http://www.citytech.cuny.edu/ even though the / is not in the link, so maybe you need to put that / into the url with the Home for the pagebgcolor to show.

I am sorry - I DID mean the pagebgcolor property.... Ruth - I think the link specification you mention is what I am looking for. I tried it and it seemed to work!

I will confirm this when I get abck to work..

Hi -

It was pagematch. Putting "/" for the link worked. There is another problem though... when visiting the base page:
http://www.citytech.cuny.edu

The highlight works.

But, when following a breadcrumb link (go to the following URL and hit the "home" link on the "You are here:" breadcrumb (NOT the milonic menu)

http://www.citytech.cuny.edu/academics/ ... ndex.shtml

and you will see that once back at the home page, the "Home" does not light up. I have attempted to use "pagematch" in the main milonic menu code embedded on the page but it doesn't seem to work.

Ok, I don't know that this will work, since you are using a link outside the menu, but try changing your 'breadcrumb' links to full links without the index.shtml. For example the link in the menu is http://www.citytech.cuny.edu/ but the link in the breadcrumb has ../index.shtml and that's not what's in the menu, right? Not sure that it will make a change but I can't check pagematch on my desktop.

Hi Ruth

The link in the menu is simply "/" as you suggested. This is why the highlight color works when one visits
http://www.citytech.cuny.edu

The link in the breadcrumbs is defined as "index.shtml" - is the only way for me to fix this problem going back to all the breadcrumbs and changing the reference to "/" -- yikes - I was hoping pagematch could take care of this...

Well, I really don't know if that's the problem it may be that the page match isn't working because the person is arriving from a link outside the menu. I don't really know, and the only way to test is for you to put in that one you sent us to the full url like it is for the home in the menu and see if it works when you go back using the breadcrumb. If it doesn't maybe there's a way to write some kind of function or some kind of script to make it do that, I have no clue, that's way beyond me.

Hi Ruth,

THe Menu Pagematch function does work even if you arrive at the page froma link that is not included in the menu. Case in point:

http://www.citytech.cuny.edu/aboutus/ne ... ence.shtml

This specific file is not linked from the menu but pagematch works for it...

Ok, right now you have /index.shtml in that home link, did you try putting in pagematch=http://www.citytech.cuny.edu/index.shtml and see what that does? There's just no way for me to test pagematch on my desktop that I can figure...
