Updated Menu not displaying

Post by Rafael »

I've noticed that with several users that come to the site after I have made a change to the menu it does not display the changes even if they clear out their cache or refresh the screen.

Any ideas?

That's not much for us to go on. :)

Got more specifics, what changes did you make, and especially a URL (as requested)?

What I have changed for example is removing one of the menu items from the menu_data.js file. When I visit the site and view the menu the menu displays with the item removed. However, when several clients look at the page the previous menu still displays with the item that was removed.

I don't even get a menu to come up on the page, Rafael!

However, first things first. You are way down-level. You're runing RC19 (an old beta), and current is v5.15 release. This puts you 50-60 versions back!

You'll need to upgrade first from http://milonic.com/ before we can do anything. Read the included files, as some things have changed.

While you're at it, in your _data file, parameters that are numeric only do not require the ""; e.g., subimagepadding="2"; should be subimagepadding=2;. Remove those extra "".

You must hover over the following link:

"Submit a New Service Request" to get menu.

Ok, I have downloaded v5.15 and I will apply.

Thanks for the response. I will see if the upgrade will make a difference.

I just tried it John, it gave me an error when I tried to login, then it kept loading the login page, so I clicked again and it logged in. Almost as if the page has to be totally loaded before it will accept the login.

Had already done that. Anyway, it finally worked.

Let us know when you're ready. Also, specifically which menu item your folks are having problems with (I really suspect cache, especially if they're running IE).

The item they were having difficulty with is B1 Update Request under the Client Services option. I changed an item in the url link and that info was never refreshed. That is exactly what I think the problem is; although I have tried walking them through deleting the cache and closing their browser but no success. They are using IE.

This is what I get from that item...

Right! and that is what you should get. But before I changed it the link was as follows:

http://bsgtrack.fis.adp.com/arsys/apps/ ... d=v096caca.

The users are still seeing this link when they select the menu.

NOTE: that the "viewalias=B1QA" changed.

If you're seeing the proper URL in your _data file, and uploading it to your server (obviously you are, given I got the correct URL), then it has to be an issue with those folks' computers.

IE is not always truthful about dumping the cache, even from the Tools menu. Try having them hold down Shift at the same time they click the Reload/Refresh button - more than once if necessary. This forces (in browsers that know what they're doing!) a reload from the server.

Thanks alot John! This is very helpful information which I did not have before. I will try this in the future.

BTW, I have loaded v5.15 and everything looks good.

Thanks again!

Just another thought... are your clients that are experiencing the problem at the same location? Are they going through a firewall? Some firewalls also cache. Some LANs also have cache servers to speed up Internet use. Maybe they're running into a cache upstream from their own. As I said... just a thought.
