Visual Effects and XP SP2

Post by jeanne »

My desktop computer running SP2 does not show the visual effects like shadow and dissolve like my laptop that is running SP1.
It's not just my site, I can't see the shadow on the Milonic site either with my desktop.
Anyone else running SP2 notice this?

It's still too early to put it up (for me, anyway), but I'd check the M$ site to see if this SP has messed with the filters. Seems like they've touched just about everything else.

Keep in mind we're just using their filters with their browser. The menu does not generate the effects on its own.

It's also worth noting that XP Service Pack 2 is currently only for XP HOME. The Pro version has not been finalised yet because of 'issues'. It's scheduled for release around the 26th August.

If you can dig a link out where it says that would be grand, might help.

Cheers

Here you go:

http://www.theregister.com/2004/08/18/sp2_xp_pro_delay/

It explains why I couldn't get an automated download for my machine, but was able to get the administrator's version and was about to implement it.

I think they are talking about the lightweight version and auto updates. I've definately got it working fine on our Pro machines here.

The one I downloaded was 270MB, although it came through in the post the day after for my MSDN Subscription  So I can see why a lite version would be a good idea

They are definitely talking about the auto-updates being shut down, but the word we got had nothing to do with a lite version. Some of their larger customers wanted more time for testing, so M$ backed off on the Pro version. The university has even blocked access to auto-update because IT wants even more testing time. Last I heard was for around this Tuesday. Who knows if any last minute changes will have been thrown in...

That's very odd - Our machines here seem to be working OK, begining to wish I hadn't jumped in with both feet now

Will see what happens in the future, fingers crossed.

Some of my tech folks are running it as well, also with no problems (so far). We'll see what happens...
