and I was able to make it work.

Hi Paul,
This is not something I have ever used or check so I'm just making some suggestions here. Have you downloaded the newest version of the menu 5.723? It has an example of a php menu with index.php which as this statement on it " Create your style here, multiple styles are fine" It also has mm_phpconfig.php which it says has all the user editable things, and mm_phpmenu.php which it says are the php functions. Don't know if that will help but maybe it will give you some direction.
