vertical alignment with in menu doesn't work in all browsers

Post by lewkopp »

I've been working on a new look for our website and have started using the Milonic menus. I'm using a simple, horizontal, header type of menu. Unfortunately, even though I have valign="middle" set, the menu displays with only the first and last menu headers vertically centered when I check the page in Internet Explorer (v 6.0.2900...) on a PC (XP, SP2). Safari 1.2.4 under OS X 10.3.8 looks the same as IE on the PC.

Safari 2.0 under OS X 10.4.1 works correctly, as does Firefox on both the PC and Mac.

The page I'm checking is on my test site at:
http://Culver.theculverstore.com/index.php

Any suggestions on something I can do to fix this? Or is this something that Milonic needs to fix?

I won't be surprised if this is a conflict with the CSS that I'm using to control the layout, but since it does work in some of the browsers... :?

There seems to be a problem with the valign when a subimage is present. I've reported it.

Great! Thanks for your efforts in quickly fixing this issue.

P.S. On a possibly related note, I've noticed that if you change the fontsize in your browser (Safari & Firefox,e.g. using cmd-shft-+) the font size in the menu changes appropriately, but it doesn't recenter to account for the longer text.

You got a URL that we can see where this happens?

Sorry about that!

Actually, the problem shows up with the same link as before:

P.S. Is there a way to set the farthest point to the left that the menu will move when resizing the window? In the above example, the menu moves over the logo in the upper left corner when you resize the window small enough. Is it possible to set it so that it hits a hard limit on how far it will move to the left?

Hi,

That might be a tricky problem to solve due to the way the page is rendered based on current font dimensions.

However, in reality, people do not tend to change browser text size regularly so may not be too much of a problem.

Cheers,
Andy
