I'm would like to know if there is an option to disable a link after the first time it has been clicked? or do I need to write a function to do it?
...either way please provide an example.

There is a function that was written to be able to change item properties. There is a demo but they have a separate item to click to engage the function. Perhaps from this you could figure out how to set it up so it works in each item as it is clicked.
