DocType problem

I am using version 5.777.

When I use the Doctype

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
        "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

The itemheight are wrong in IE and Safari but work fine in Firefox.

Also I am using SiteMesh with .jsp extension if that matters.

Any ideas?
