Upgrade to 5.791 causes massive errors in Firefox [Solved]

Post by sdwebguy »

In Firefox 2.0.0.12, when I go to a test page on my site (http://www.trialsmith.com/temp/caselaw/milonic.cfm), each time I move my mouse I get a javascript error: "event is not defined". This error did not occur when we were on the old version 5.719.

I saw a post about this a while back with someone using Firefox 0.9, but it was dismissed as being a beta browser. From the page above you can see my javascript.

Any ideas?

Hi,

I'm not seeing the menu. I tried IE, FF, NN, Safari. I see one coded on the page called Search but it's not set to be visible. When I downloaded it and set it to alwaysvisible=1; and could see it and tried the page in FF I didn't get any errors.

Are you seeing the menu when you go to that page?

Hi Banning! I spent about 8 years in Redlands -- nice town.

Anyway, for that test page, I dont have any menus showing... just wanted to demonstrate that I get all those errors without even calling anything. So it seems something isnt right.

I have uncovered the potential cause of the error -- Im using Firefox and have an add-on called "User Agent Switcher" which allows me to view sites using different useragents. When I set the User Agent Switcher to Internet Explorer 7 and view the page, I get all the errors. When I disable the add-on, it works fine.

So of course (duh) running Firefox "as" IE will attempt to load IE specific javascript, which of course will fail in Firefox.

Sorry for taking up your time--I appreciate the chance to discover the problem!

Hi,

I worked at the University of Redlands for 10 years :) I'm only in Banning by necessity. I'd rather be in the mountains [Oak Glenn type area, not real high mountains] with nice greenery and snow for a bit in the winter!

Thanks for posting the information on this issue. It is always useful since it may help someone else with it, or something similar. We do appreciate all the help we get here.
