Followscroll-Bottom-Bug (?!)

I guess it is better to mention the bug (if it is really one - but I guess it is...) in the Bug and Development-Section.
To explain the problem again (in short):
The Menu does not "follow" the scrolling if the alignment is set to "Bottom" and the Menu is horizontal. I tried it now for about 5 days and it just stays where it is - at the top. In earlier version then rc6 it (the menu) was jumping up and down all the time or at least for quite some time before it decided to go to the top. This problem is solved in RC6 - but bottom-horizontal-follow-scroll menus seem to not work (or at least I can't figure out how to).

Just to give you a small feedback, the bug still isn't resolved in ReleaseCandidate 7. As soon as you define "screenposition = bottom" and add "followscroll = 1" the whole menu moves to the top.

Further more I haven't figured out how to make submenus appear above the menu instead of below.

This all worked somehow better in version 3.x - if you defined both things there the submenu automaticly appeared above the mainmenu as it makes no sense to display it below the menu if you can't really see it at all...

Can you at least tell me that you understand my problem? Are bottom-menus so rarely used in the community?

This sounds like a different problem on the same theme.

I have the top position on the vertical followscroll menu.

Normally when scrolling down, the last html element appears at the bottom of the browser.

In this case the top of the menu aligns with the top of the last html element.

The bottom of the menu is below the last html element. This extends the page beyond the bottom html links.

I found what might be a html fix for some

Maz I've never seen anything like that...with an end_all attr. in the BR tag. Where did you find that? Whys it work?

Unfortunately the (unknown to me) instruction you used does not help me at all, the menu just climbs to the top. Why?

Okay, I'm somewhat clueless here, learning by default, my thinking is that followscroll is linked to top of menu, meaning it isn't registering bottom/bottom position on in either case. Andy is the only one who really knows.

Re: the tag is used on my xhtml site, which is probably why I'm having problems with the followscroll menu, now I think I don't have the correct validation update (xmlns), someone must know more than me.

I think it makes sense to keep all the followscroll bugs together.

I had horizontal menu working fine, everytime I added the vertical menu the page links go inactive. Now I know its when followscroll=1 is present, it appeared to work normally.

If its the tag conflict in previous post how is it handled?

I removed all references to followscroll for the page links to work.

I have followscroll working normally on IE 6, but still no luck with IE 5.1.6 all links on the page freeze and the top graphic now comes down the page to the last vertical submenu item since adding type radio button.

EDIT: it wasn't the radio, I forgot about trying the div tag for no print on the mac, so that was resolved by using Andys no print tag. IE 6 moves nicely to the bottom of the page, but goes beyond in IE 5.1.6.

Also on both, if the mouse is on the horizontal menu during loading the vertical menu fills with items from horizontal menu before reload.

I just read in another post that followscroll=3 made the menu follow at the bottom of the page, I know its supposed to be on and off 1 & 0, but might be worth a try.

There is indeed a new version RC9 - unfortunately the problem got even worse. The menu jumps up and down again when I enable screenposition "bottom" and followscroll together (even with "3").

I rewrote the whole menu and tested it with the sample menu - no luck whatsoever. Am I'm too stupid?? 5 different Release Candidates - every Release Candidate shows a different behaviour but no RC is working ...

McTristan, Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

I found that magic, now I have my links working on my page.
I doubt this would work for you, unless you go for an illadvised frame.

I took the menu-data script from the top of the page and placed it in a table, now the menu follows up and down the page and my page links work.

I'm having some difficulty with all the scroll bars in this busy menu, hopefully its okay in other browsers, but not as bad as me losing page links in my browser, so I can admin the site.

Not to forget position=relative in main menu.

I'm happy to have followscroll and links working in IE 5.1.6

You're not going to believe this, but I just got an update to IE 5.1.7
Now followscroll doesn't freeze my links, but doesn't work in table.

Doing a search on the version 5 forums for followscroll would give you the correct syntax on how to use followscroll. You were not implementing it correctly...take a look at viewtopic. ... llowscroll and you will get it straight from the boss's mouth.

Secondly, I downloaded your menu, and changed the followscroll to its proper implementation. The reason you are getting the problem is because position to the bottom of the screen tries to set the position to the bottom of the window. followscroll samples the menus position every couple milliseconds and tries to scroll it. In your case, it was 1, so it tried scrolling it to 1 px from the top, hence the large jumping. If you remove screenposition:bottom and set followscroll to something like "600,1,20" it positions the menu 600px from the top of the screen and always scrolls it nicely. Right now you can only use one or the other since they fight eachother...maybe we can add something to it so when both are used, they work nicer...we'll see. But tried experiementing with one or the other.

First of all I'm pretty sure it's not mentioned in the documentation, second it's not really what I want. In v3.x you could define both parameters and the menu would stay at the bottom (you could even define how many pixels from the lower border of the window) and the submenus would open above the mainmenu automatically.
Your approach makes the menu stay somewhere absolutely on the screen which has the major drawback that you must know how large the current window is + the submenus will always open below the mainmenu which makes it completely senseless. I don't know why it was working so easily in version 3.x but the current "solution" is not at all useful for my problem.

Version 5 of the menu is still in the 'Release Candidate' stages so its still being updated, fixed, and perfected. There are still some bugs to iron out as well as some features that may be added, so bare with us. This menu with its creator has been awesome in the past about taking care of his customers, so stick with it.

I'm sorry that my idea wasn't up to par with what you were expecting. Just tried to help you find a solution to at least temporarily help your problem.

I'll mention to Andy that we should update the documentation for followscroll.

ok thanks to you both @Herrie and @Andy ... Didn't want to sound rude or so, I really appreciate the help you are giving. It's just (as I mentioned) earlier, that the Menu showed a very different behavior in every Release Candidate so I thought someone may have worked on the problem.
It would be Ideal if it could work the same as it did in Version 3.x (as mentioned in my prior post). Absolute positioning is a no-go for my specific problem (and I'm pretty sure there are other persons out there with the same idea) ...

So anyways - thank you all for your help!

Boy what did I say? I said this guy is great, fixes things quick and always comes through, and what does he go and do, he backs me up and comes through with the fix! We just should update the menu quick reference to more properly describe the followscroll syntax.
