Relative Positioning + Follow Scroll Combo?
Relative Positioning + Follow Scroll Combo?
I know this combo sounds conflicting to say the least. But what I mean is that can we keep the vertical menu with a pre-determined X value but as you scroll the page, it will slide up & down (ie: variable Y value)? Can this be done?
If you still can't visualize what I mean, please go to: http://www.aquaconnect.us. Right now the menu is fixed (ie: relative positioned). But let's say I want it to scroll down as the page scrolls but all this time, it must be kept at the same position between the left edge (of my table, not the browser) and the light grey vertical line.
Can this be done?
Thank you all in advance.

Hi, I now got my menu to work nearly exactly how I wish it to except that its resting position is too low (in the middle of the page vertically). Is there any way to make it stay at the same level of "Welcome to aqua connect !" no matter how I scroll the page?
I tried the top=155, left=250 command but that doesn't do much (except to bring it even lower). I tried removing the "position="relative";" but it renders the menu to be in the middle of the page (horizontally), etc......
Thank you in advance.

maybe try this
Maybe try to just decease the top=155 to something less, so that it when it rest, it can rest where you want it to.

Re: maybe try this
Thank you for responding but I already tried "top=1" and even "top=-999" but the current position is the ultimate highest that this menu wants to go. If you use your cursor to highlight the menu from bottom to top and go all the way, you will see that there is a shadow above the menu with the exact width & height. Can that be the problem? I have no idea how did that come into place except maybe it is a byproduct of "position="relative";"??seandeja wrote:Maybe try to just decease the top=155 to something less, so that it when it rest, it can rest where you want it to.

You guys are super. It now works! My only remaining complaint is that the menu's vertical movement is very jerky. It is nowhere as smooth & gradual as the demo on the Milonic (Follow Scrolling) page. And Hergio's explanation on the 3rd followscroll variable (at: viewtopic. ... llowscroll) is very different from what I found out.
For me, when you set this 3rd variable to:
0, followscroll is disabled.
1, followscroll is active and is on top - this is exactly what I wish it to be.
2, followscroll is active and is at the MIDDLE of the page vertically.
3, followscroll is active and is at the bottom of the page.
4 or greater, followscroll is active but it keeps dropping to forever land and renders your browser scroll bar going & going & going.
BTW, where else on this page does it elaborate on these 3 variables?
Thank you guys, really.
If you want to take a look at its jerky movement, please go to: http://www.aquaconnect.us and scroll down the page a lil'.

Technically, I want my menu to function & slide like the FAQ Quick Menu of this page: http://milonic.com/menufaq.php
What did I do wrong?
Thank you for your help.

This forum is problematic
Guys, no matter what you do, NEVER ever click that "Notify me when a reply is posted" feature when posting to this forum. I used it in my original post and it keeps spamming me unstoppably. I returned to my above message to undo it, I even followed the TWO methods these spams included to deactivate it. Nothing worked. And whether you have real replies or not to your post, it just keeps spaming you. Of course that my profile page also says I should NOT be informed whenever there are replies to my post. But still...
Very bad. Never knew that phpBB does this.

Since the phpBB upgrade there have been a few bugs concerning the emailing. Hopefully phpBB will straighten it out. I know they have a MAJOR release coming up later this year or early next year that will blow the socks off other message boards, even the NOT-FREE ones, and phpBB is totally free.
Note to Andy, I BELIEVE that there is a plugin for the forum that tells the forum to NOT increase the 'Views' field of a topic and to not email the original poster if they view their own posts or post to their own topics. Maybe we should use it? No?

Gotta be a bit picky here. The Forum is only doing what you asked it to do; i.e., notify you. Therfore, it is NOT spam.
Personally, I want to know when somebody has replied to my posts. You are, of course, entitled to your opinion, but lighten it up a bit and let folks make their own choices.

John, thanks for changing my username from puffie to Areometer. Appreciate it.
I have a few phpBB forums for my sites too so I know when it is not functioning fine. Let's take this thread as an example. Since I first posted, I have received 54 email notifications already. And how many actual replies are there? Only 12. Remember, this feature is supposed to notify me *when there is an actual reply to my post*, not when any one is viewing it. I tried everything that I can to deactivate this feature but it is still emailing me. For me, this is a malfunction of the forum cos' 54 email since Sept 2nd is indeed a spam. No biggie, just want to let you guys know.
And thanks to Hergio for acknowledging this issue.
