Cross browser Marquee script and menu in Opera 7

Please note that official support for this menu version has now ceased. There are still plenty of users, though, and the forum is still running. Some of our long-time users may be able to help you out.

Cross browser Marquee script and menu in Opera 7

Post by Romeo »

I am using a cross browser marquee script on the home page, all works fine with the menu until it is viewed with Opera. Opera displays the marquee but not the menu.
What information do you require ?

PS. Apart from confirmation from Andy 28/11/02 :-
"We have got your cheque and a soon as I get five minutes I'll go to the bank to pay it in. I'm not when that will be though :-))"
I have never had any other licence details or confirmation. Should I have had ?

Always give us a URL to work with. That way we can see the problem and also look at your array setup. You might also mention the version you're running in your initial message. Some sites other than Andy's that carry the menu are, quite literally, more than 25 levels down. Current is 3.5.15. You might also try putting the menu calls in the <head> for Opera rather than the <body>, but be aware that can disrupt some other browsers.

You will, eventually, get a thank you and a license number from the gang. Andy is deep into V4 development and sometimes lags a bit on other things (sorry, boss!). HOWEVER, the wait for V4 will be well worth it (and, a little bird tells me, not much longer, either).

Meanwhile, you paid for your license (thank you!), and you are good to go right now with nothing to worry about. When you get the number just embed it into the main script as a comment.

Thank you for the reply, URL is http://www.maxview.ltd.uk.

I am currently using version 3.5.12 of the script and until now never had a problem. It seems that Opera has a problem with the menu and marquee, when you go to any other page without the marquee everything is OK.

I am now a little confused about your reply of putting the script calls in the head for Opera as the instullation guide states:
"Please Note: For the menu to work correctly in any version of Opera you must place the menu references inside the BODY of your documents. Opera will not display if you put the references in the HEAD."
Many thanks

You are quite correct. I messed that one up and I apologize. BTW, congratulations on reading the material - many others do not! Of course, we could attribute that to getting sprayed in the face with weed killer the other day...

Just installed Opera 7.11 and your marquee and the menu definitely do not play well together. You might want to try V4 just for fun. Throw a quick test menu together before rewriting everything just to see if it works. Andy has done a lot of work on this version, including many bug fixes (although Opera has turned into a special case).

See http://milonic.com/4beta/menu.htm.

Many thanks.
I have just started "playing" with V4, and it is great. Have found a couple of bugs/ or me not configuring it correct, and left them on the V4 section.
Again Many Thanks

Actually the V4 area is more for development info than problems. For now, keep posting assistance requests here. When V4 is released Andy will open up the other areas.

Thanks.
