menu closes but not links ?

Post by ybouc »

I'm having a little problem here.

In this menu : http://www.nexus-is.qc.ca/~acmdp/conseillers.htm , sometimes the links to my sub-menus (for example the one under "mission") actually stay open, even when that sub-menu is closed. For example, if i'm not putting my mouse cursor over the main menu buttons, but just on the page where the sub-menus would appear, my cursor actually changes to the hand, and i can click on the links where my menu would normally happen. Any idea why is that ? It doesn't happen every time though, but still quite often. I've seen that especially when using Win98 + IE6 .

thanks in advance for your help !

Looking at it in XP Pro/IE6 I do not see the error you describe.

However, before we do anything else - upgrade! You are running RC17, we are currently at v5.02 final release. That's move versions down-level than I care to count.

READ the instructional files that come with the download. There have been changes since 17.

Also, please post your license number in the appropriate spot in the code comments area.

Let us know how it goes.

Ok, I _have_ tried upgrading, and as soon as I do so, for some reason, the menu does not appear anymore. And I have never been able to determine why... :-|

Like I was saying, in XP it does work well, it's 98 that's troublesome...

Apologies, I lost track.

Can you post at least 1 page of your setup under 5.02? Name it something else, of course. I don't have 98, so I won't be able to look at it, but I'm sure one of the folks will. We need to see it to help fix it.

Hi Yannick,

I get the same effect as you describe when visiting your site in IE6/Win2k. I have reproduced your main page locally. The strange effect (submenu links where no submenu is open) occurs when using RC17, but disappears when using 5.02. Your page appears fine locally when I use 5.02 in IE6/Win2k.

I'd say that John has a good suggestion... Since 5.02 seems to solve the "odd link" problem, how about putting up a test page that uses 5.02. If it simply won't appear, then let's deal with that problem.

Hey !

Ok, I was setting up the test version, and found out that it works now. I guess it must have been another problem, or something related to a previous update version. Anyways, I guess it's gonna be fine now !

Btw, as an added bonus, is it possible that this new version is somewhat faster ?

It's supposed to be faster. Instead of loading all of the images initially, I believe it waits to load an image on it's first use (you may therefore notice a slight delay when a submenu first opens... you could always write your own image caching function I suppose, to get around that delay). If nothing else, the main menu should appear on the page faster.

Glad to hear it's working, whatever the problem was!
