Problem with Milonic Link Appearing in Menu

Post by tomjelen »

First, a big thanks to the Milonic team for version 5 -- its looks/works great!

A client of mine is having an intermittent problem with the Milonic Link appearing in the menu we created for them.

I have the "Menu by Milonic" link at the bottom of the page to http://milonic.com/ (I included the forward slash -- from a previous post on this). I even put an invisible link at the top of the page in an effort to ensure its there when the page loads.

Here is the link:
http://216.197.127.82/

I'm not getting the problem with any of the browsers I have myself (IE 6, Netscape 4.7, NS 7, Mozilla 1), but my client tells me he sees it before he hits refresh on a page using IE.

Is this something anyone else has experienced? Am I correct that for a nonprofit organization, I do not need to do anything else besides posting the link to use the menu? I can't find a link for licensing a free version of the menu for a nonprofit when I am logged in.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Tom

I just went to every page you've got out there and did not see the Milonic menu item come up. Your link back is correct. XP Pro/IE6.

Do you have any more specific information on exactly what browser/OS combo your client is using?

Hi Tom,

Does your client experience this problem over a dial-up? Are you using high-speed? For some reason (I'm thinking slow connection), the menu code that checks for the required link is running before the link is actually rendered on the page.

Two suggestions:

(1) Update from 5.09 to the latest release (5.12 as of today). (Timing for the check may have changed, plus it's always a good idea to try the latest one).

(2) Try moving the <script> tags that load the menu scripts to the bottom of the body, just before your closing </body> tag. That way, your links to milonic.com will already have appeared in the page when the menu code is processed. With your setup, the menu should appear in the same location as it does now... it just won't necessarily be the first thing the site visitor sees.

Hope that helps.

Dear all

I had the same problem on http://www.humaniora.broeders.be - despite the link at the bottom the first menu item kept changing (not always, but often) to Milonic. Problem appeared in IE6 and NS7.1 (Win98, ADSL connection). Only online, offline I never noticed it, so wat Kevin says about slower connections might be true.

I took care of Kevin's two suggestions, and now it seems to be OK.

Best regards,
Philip
