change the position of the graphic in a basic dropdown menu?

How can I change the position of the arrow in a basic dropdown menu
In one column I want it on the left not right also in the next sub menu

I think you could make graphics that fit the with of the whole menu(like this)
|--> menu text |
<--------------->
= width of graphic

and menu text would then be "&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;menu text"

But i'm affraid this will be ugly when the menu text is to long to fit on 1 line
