Firefox, flash, _menuCloseDelay: not functioning over flash
Firefox, flash, _menuCloseDelay: does not function over flash
In Firefox, _menuCloseDelay does not function when moving mouse in any direction over flash; using Milonic Version 5.782 - Built: Saturday September 29 2007 - 12:12
http://griots.marketlive.com/
FYI: first and easy fix applied: http://milonic.com/activateflash.php AND fixMozillaZIndex=true employed
However, an older site using an older version of Milonic (Version 5.7 - Built: Thursday February 3 2005 - 21:13) _menuCloseDelay functions correctly over flash:
http://www.frontgate.com/
I downloaded Version 5.786 - Built: Monday October 22 2007 - 13:17 and put the js files into deploy and the problem persists in my local build.
Next, I'm going to try taking the older versions of milonic from frontgate to see if that works; it has none of the fixes noted in FYI above (near as I can tell), but works like a dream in both FF and IE. Sending this now because of time diff across the pond.
Any help/insights appreciated. Thanks!
P.S. also did this before I had done more research:
Contact Us link/email from http://milonic.com/activateflash.php
[#10300] Milonic Contact - Firefox, flash, _menuCloseDelay: to right and beneath
AND
this is my first time on a forum and I'm doing my best to get it right; please excuse any oopsies; thanks.

Hi,
You need to upgrade to the newest version and see if that fixes it.

Re: Firefox, flash, _menuCloseDelay: not functioning over flash
Please note that, for support here in the forum, you must be running the most current version of the menu code - 5.786 as Ruth mentioned.

Re: Firefox, flash, _menuCloseDelay: not functioning over flash
Thanks, Ruth, but according to these pages:
http://milonic.com/menuvinfo.php
Version: Latest - 5.786
Bug Fix - Tuesday 23rd October 2007
http://milonic.com/download.php?version=Latest
The Current Menu Version is Version 5.786
I am using the current version: 5.786
If there is a more current version that you are referring to, could you please point me to it?
Is this not correct?
"I downloaded Version 5.786 - Built: Monday October 22 2007 - 13:17 and put the js files into deploy and the problem persists in my local build."
Thanks.

Hi,
I've not seen any 'oopsies'
Except you don't have the newest version on the site. Can you put up some 'duplicate' main page someplace with the new versions so we can see what's happening?
Have you checked this on the milonic flash page to see if you are seeing the problem still in FF? There is a menu there that sites right over the flash.

Problem on griots now viewable with Milonic Version 5.786.
Re: Firefox, flash, _menuCloseDelay: not functioning over flash
Hi,
I've reported this to Milonic. I don't know why it's doing that. It's as if the menu sticks open when over the flash in FF. It doesn't do it on the example on Milonic in FF so I have to think something is conflicting, but I don't know what it is. If you have a valid support license you can go to the main site and click the Tech Support text link at the bottom, log in under the name the license was obtained and fill out a support ticket.

Re: Firefox, flash, _menuCloseDelay: not functioning over flash
Hi,
Not a problem. One thing you can try is eliminating various js files one at a time and test to see if you can find out if one is conflicting with the menu.

Re: Firefox, flash, _menuCloseDelay: not functioning over flash
Hi, Ruth--
The saga continues.
Results from removing js files:
mmenuns4.js: no difference
the other two
milonic_src.js and mmenudom.js
removed menus and their sources from site.
Note: _menuCloseDelay does kick-in when mouse moves off site onto browser window
NEW PROBLEM:
The addition of transparency to the menus has introduced another menus-over-flash problem; occurs in both IE (version 7.0.5730.11) and FF (version 2.0.0.9) when viewed on PC.
IE: transparency is not functioning when over flash; does function on pages without flash.
FF: transparency not functioning anywhere on site.
Added to: menu.jsp: with(menuStyle0=new mm_style())
overfilter="Fade(duration=0.2);Alpha(opacity=90)";
Transparency does not appear on sample page:
http://milonic.com/over.php
Thanks again.

Re: Firefox, flash, _menuCloseDelay: not functioning over flash
Hi,
Sorry, I should have been clearer, js files that are other than milonic menu files, to see if there is something in those files that is in conflict.
As to the transparency and FF, it will never appear in FF, that is a proprietary thing to IE, it is the Microsoft Filters and Transitions codes for Internet Explorer, I think it uses active x. Take a look at the Interactive Demos page [in IE] to see what else is available to use, they are kind of neat, but again will only work in IE.
http://support.milonic.com/demos/filters/index.htm
As to IE 7, you will have to contact Milonic directly as I do not have that browser so can't do any experiments to see what's happening. I don't know if there are any IE7 settings that does something with those transitions and flash. If this is a professional or above license currently in support phase you can go to the main site, click the Tech Support text link at the bottom of the page and fill out a support ticket. I have posted to Milonic about the issue. Sorry, I can't be more help, but without IE 7, I can't experiment.

Re: Firefox, flash, _menuCloseDelay: not functioning over flash
Thanks, Ruth!
Especially for the transparency in FF info!
I'll pursue the support route (already in progress).
Any resolution will be posted when (Hopefully!/if) resolution is found.
Happy Thanksgiving and I'm giving thanks for your help!

Hey, Ruth--
Transparency is working in Firefox v2.0.0.9 on this site!?!

I won't be able to dig into this for a while to see what's what, but wanted to pass along.

Re: Firefox, flash, _menuCloseDelay: not functioning over flash
Opacity is set in the site CSS and then onclass= and offclass= statements are used in the definition/setup of the submenus. Since the CSS file is clearly marked 'copyright' I'm not going to post here exactly what was done (but you probably know anyway...).dianecausey wrote:Transparency is working in Firefox v2.0.0.9 on this site!?!

There appears to be no opacity set in the CSS for .menuItemOn for this site.

Re: Firefox, flash, _menuCloseDelay: not functioning over flash
BTW, if you're not supporting NS4 (who is??), you can clean up your menu code calls as follows...
Code: Select all
<script type="text/javascript" src="milonic_src.js"></script>
<noscript><a href="https://milonic.com/">JavaScript DHTML Menu Powered by Milonic</a></noscript>
<script type="text/javascript" src="mmenudom.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="menu_data.js"></script>

Re: Firefox, flash, _menuCloseDelay: not functioning over flash
Hi,
After quite some time mucking about with this I think I have found out why Firefox is playing up.
It looks like Firefox requires the wmode property to be specified inside the <EMBED> part of the Flash object.
Adding <embed wmode="transparent" src=..... seems to have fixed the Firefox problem.
No sure yet about the IE transparency but if we can get the Firefox issue resolved we can look at it then

Re: Firefox, flash, _menuCloseDelay: not functioning over flash
Hi,
That transparency, as John noted, is done using css. You're already using classes for the submenus so you could add it to the class, i.e. opacity:0.5;-moz-opacity:0.5. Of course you'd set what you wanted as to that. If you don't want to declare it in the css, you might try doing it using the rawcss property. I haven't tested it, but you'd put this in the style section
Of course, that 0.5 would be whatever you wanted, it goes from 0.1 to 1.0.
One thing you might check, with your IE7 is the IE Filters and Transistions interactive demo. Set what you want and see if it is working in IE7. If it is, then something, most likely in the css, is the problem. I am working on your page to see if I can find the problem since I am not getting the filters in IE6 either, but I do get them on the Filters and Transitions demo when I set them. So, I am assuming it's something on your page.

Re: Firefox, flash, _menuCloseDelay: not functioning over flash
Hey, Andy, Ruth, and John--
Wanted to get back to you before the holidays with results from the inputs.
It took a while, but the embed wmode="transparent" was added and it did fix the mouseout (_menuCloseDelay) issue in Firefox (FF). Yeah!
Thanks for wmode fix, Andy!
Ruth, I tried the filters, but nothing there that I could find that addressed the problem; interesting though.
John, the NS4 removal is a corporate/product call. Thanks, though!
Starting to work on the FF transparency issue. Obvious modifications are not working as anticipated: opacity is effecting the images and menu text, but not the background of the menus; hum. The css modifications for this have NOT been uploaded to the review site, but the below has been added to menuItemOff and menuItemOn classes and psuedo-classes:
opacity:0.5;-moz-opacity:0.5;
I've also tried adding the rawcss to menu.jsp:
overfilter="Fade(duration=0.2);Alpha(opacity=90)";
rawcss="opacity:0.5;-moz-opacity:0.5;"
I also notice in IE that the menus are not transparent over flash, but are transparent over the non-flash portions of the site; hum. The site is now live and on this page you can see the transparency over the left side and how it isn't transparent over the flash on the right side; still no transparency in FF.

Re: Firefox, flash, _menuCloseDelay: not functioning over flash
Hi,
I have not found anything to help, though I still mess with it from time to time. It has to be something on your page, or in your flash since when I go to the Milonic menu over flash test page, I can see the flash behind the menu. Of course you kind of have to pick your time to get a part of the flash when a lot of it is there since it's a moving image. Have you check this with IE 7 to see if you are getting the transparency when the submenus drop over the flash on this page?
